On December 28, 2022, at the national level, there were 8,501,718 driving license holders and 9,952,850 registered vehicles, according to the Directorate of Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DRPCIV) data.
Moreover, during 2022, DRPCIV issued 1,069,457 driving licenses and 1,466,982 registration certificates.
179,686 new vehicles, 396,155 second-hand vehicles and 6,116 zero-emission vehicles were registered last year. Since 2010, the number of vehicles registered in Romania has increased, on average, by around 5% each year.
Thus, the number of new vehicle registrations increased by approximately 59% compared to 2010 and by approximately 21% compared to 2017.
At the same time, the number of used vehicle registrations conducted until 28.12.2022 recorded an increase of approximately 62% compared to 2010 and a decrease of approximately 34% compared to 2017.
The number of electric vehicles registered in Romania recorded an average increase of approximately 114% annually. From 2010 until December 28, 2022, 26,277 electric vehicles were registered.
Dacia, first in the top of new car sales
According to ACAROM data, the brand ranking for the largest number of new cars registered in 2022 is led by Dacia, with 39,910 units sold. It is followed by Toyota with 10,200 units sold in Romania and Hyundai (9,551).
Skoda (8,669 vehicles), Ford (8,645), Renault (8,443), Volkswagen (8,203), Mercedes (3,572) and Peugeot (3,532) complete the top.
