Romanian authorities have put no pressure on us and we will continue to support the steps for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, says Raiffeisen Bank in a press release.

Previously, Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), part of Austria’s Erste Group, also told the press that no pressure was applied to the bank.

The President & CEO of Raiffeisen Bank Romania, Zdenek Romanek, noted ”We fully support Romania’s accession to the Schengen area and we will continue to support the efforts of the authorities to achieve this goal.”

Also, BCR noted that ”There are no second-tier member states. Therefore, all citizens have to benefit equally from the freedoms of the Union. This also includes participation in the Schengen area”.

Hard to say at this moment any ”steps” made by Raiffeisen Bank, BCR, or other Austrian companies, to support Romania in its Schengen bid, as there is no public knowledge about any.
