Carrefour has entered into exclusive negotiations with Pavăl Holding for the potential transfer of its operations in Romania, in a transaction valued at approximately €823 million.

The French retail giant operates 478 stores in Romania, including 55 hypermarkets, 191 supermarkets, 202 convenience stores and 30 discount units under the Supeco brand. In 2024 and estimated for 2025, the Romanian operations generated gross sales of around €3.2 billion, representing approximately 3.5% of Carrefour Group’s total revenues.

Romania has been one of Carrefour’s key markets in Central and Eastern Europe. However, the potential sale suggests a strategic portfolio reassessment by the French group, which operates more than 15,000 stores in over 40 countries worldwide.

In 2024, Carrefour reported global revenues of €94.6 billion, confirming its position as one of the world’s leading food retailers. The prospective buyer, Pavăl Holding, is the investment vehicle of the Pavăl family, among Romania’s most prominent entrepreneurs and the owners of Dedeman, the country’s leading DIY retail chain.
