The Romanian Ice Hockey Federation launched a virulent attack on the Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc hockey team, which is accused of being sick for the domestic championship matches, but fit for those on Erste Liga.
Even if it is financed by public funds through the Romanian Ministry of Sports, Miercurea Ciuc club avoids the domestic championship matches, choosing instead to participate in the Erste Liga – an ice hockey competition played by 7 clubs from Hungary and 3 from Romania.
In the current season of the National Hockey Championship of Romania, on January 28, 2023, the match between Corona Brașov and SC Miercurea Ciuc was postponned after the Miercurea Ciuc team announced that it cannot play due to a number of players being injured and ill.
However on Sunday, January 29, 48 hours after this announcement, SC Miercurea Ciuc played against FEHA19, in full formation, in the Erste Liga.
Although, Corona Brașov is also part of the Erste League and on January 27th played a match in this league against FEHA19, on January 28th the club was ready to play, in normal roster, the match scheduled within the National Hockey Championship of Romania.
Steaua Bucharest leads the National Hockey Championship of Romania with 52 points after 22 matches played, being followed by ACSH Gheorgheni with 50 points and Corona Brașov with 49 points.
Sport Club Miercurea Ciuc won Erste Liga and the National Hockey Championship of Romania last season.
