Romanian tourism to China has surged in 2025 following Beijing’s decision to lift visa requirements for Romanian citizens. Official data show that roughly 36,000 Romanians visited China in the first seven months of the year, a 78% increase compared with the same period in 2024.

Last year, about 35,000 Romanians traveled to Chinadouble the figure from 2023, after China introduced its unilateral visa exemption policy for Romanian nationals at the end of 2024.

Top destinations for Romanian travelers include Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Guilin-Yangshuo, Zhangjiajie, and Chengdu. Popular experiences range from high-speed rail journeys and cultural tours to traditional festivalsnatural landscapes, and encounters with giant pandas.

Chinese Visitor Numbers to Romania Also Rising

Tourism flows are strengthening in both directions. According to data from Romania’s National Institute of Statistics (INS)21,682 Chinese tourists visited Romania in the first half of 2025—the highest number of Asian visitorsrecorded this year.

Chinese travelers are primarily drawn to Bucharest, Brașov, Sibiu, the Black Sea coast, Maramureș, Bucovina, and the Danube Delta. Romania’s iconic landmarks such as Bran Castle, Peleș Castle, Bucharest’s Old Town, Sighișoara,and Turda Salt Mine remain top attractions.

China Tourism Fair in Bucharest Boosts Bilateral Ties

In a further sign of deepening tourism and cultural ties, the China Tourism Fair is taking place at the Chinese Cultural Center in Bucharest from October 10–12, 2025.

Organized by the Chinese Cultural Center and the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT), the three-day event aims to promote tourism, culture, and bilateral cooperation between Romania and China.

Visitors will discover a wide range of destinations—from Beijing and Shanghai to Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Xinjiang, and Hainan—alongside exclusive travel offerspresentations, and interactive experiences including tea workshops, calligraphy sessions, and Chinese gastronomy demonstrations.
