3 out of 4 Romanians are planning to go on vacation in the next three months, according to the MKOR study “The Tourism Market – Summer Vacation 2024”, and July (33%) and August (37%) remain the favorite months for vacations.
Romanians are conservative in their choice of vacation destinations: 6 out of 10 respondents choose to return to locations they have visited before, with an average of 3 visits to the same destination.
The Romanian seaside attracts almost half of those who choose to stay in the country (44%). Among international destinations, Greece continues to be the most popular (31%), followed by Bulgaria (16%), Italy (14%) and Turkey (13%).
Sightseeing is the most important criterion in choosing a vacation destination for 1 in 4 respondents. Price (18%), scenery, and fresh air (15%) complete the top four.
Holidays of up to one week (4-7 days) are preferred by 60% of respondents. Tours are becoming increasingly popular, with 3 out of 10 Romanian tourists planning stays of 8-14 days.
The average budget allocated for this year’s summer vacation is around EUR 1,000, similar to summer 2017. However, 4 out of 10 respondents expect to spend more than this amount. On the other hand, 43% of respondents (compared to 32% in 2017) expect an increase in their budget compared to last year, with an average increase of 40%.
