The National Union of Road Transporters from Romania (UNTRR) condemns Austria’s vote against the accession of Romania in Schengen and requests the Government to cut controls at the border with Bulgaria.

Transport is the most affected economic area by the Schengen negative vote and in this way Austria gives a strong blow to the Romanian economy in which it has major interests.

UNTRR added: Changing the rules at the end of the game only for a part of the candidates proves an unequal and preferential treatment. Do these become the new principles of the European Union?

The carriers emphasize that Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union together and have permanently teamed up to enter the Schengen area together, and it is necessary to continue joint efforts to join this area.

Also, UNTRR requests the Romanian Government to continue and intensify efforts to achieve the goal of Romania’s accession to the Schengen area, together with Bulgaria, in 2023.
