Compared to the same period in 2022, the number of reservations made by Romanians on the Kiwi.com platform increased by over 88%, while most Romanian travelers chose destinations closer to home.
44% of Romanian tourists chose short-distance trips for February, the most popular countries being Italy, Germany, Austria, Turkey, and Greece. The most booked cities are Milan, Rome, Venice, Vienna, and Istanbul. The average price of plane tickets for short-haul trips is 62 euros.
Almost a third – 62% – of the Romanians who bought round-trip tickets will stay a maximum of 3 days at the destination, 23% will spend between 4 and 6 days there, and 13% will be on vacation between one and two weeks.
More than half of Romanians (53%) plan to go on a medium-distance trip for Valentine’s. Ticket prices are only slightly higher than those for closer destinations, with an average of 79 euros.
The countries most visited by Romanians travelers in this category are the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Belgium, and Ireland, while the most popular cities are London, Brussels, Paris, Barcelona, and Dublin.
City breaks remain the favorites: 40% of Romanian travelers will spend up to 3 days at their destination, 29% between 4 and 6 days, and another 23% will spend between one and two weeks on vacation.
Although only 3% of Romanians chose long-distance destinations this season, they seem to be waiting for winter to pass by spending more time on vacation. The average ticket price for these destinations is 397 euros.
Thus, 47% of those who booked return tickets will stay between one and two weeks at their destination, 24% will spend between 2 and 3 weeks, and 18% plan to stay between 3 weeks and 2 months.
The most popular countries among those who chose holidays in remote places are the Canary Islands, Thailand, India, the USA, or Sri Lanka, and the favorite cities are Tenerife, Colombo, Bangkok, Kathmandu, and Las Palmas.
