Bucharest accumulates around 20% (500,000) of all Revolut retail accounts in Romania, while in the city metropolitan area are almost 580,000 customers.
The Romanian capital is in second place in the top 10 cities with the most Revolut customers, according to the data available in the app as of January 2023. The ranking is led by London, Dublin sits in 3rd place, followed by Warsaw, Budapest, Paris, Madrid, Sofia and Vilnius.
Bucharest also has a good score regarding the adoption rate of the Revolut app, which amounts to 41% of the active population. Four in ten Bucharesters between the ages of 15 and 64 have a Revolut card and use it for day-by-day banking operations and transactions.

Iasi, with almost 90,000 customers, is followed by Cluj-Napoca, with 89,000 customers, Timisoara (71,000 customers), Constanta (63,000 customers), and Brasov (62,300 customers). Craiova, Galati, Ploiesti, and Sibiu are also in the top 10, with between 35,000 and 47,000 customers each.
Almost a third of customers (29%) fall into the 25-34 age group, 24% are from the 35-44 age group, 23% are from the 18-24 age group, 16% fall into the 45-54 age group and 6% in the 55-64 age group.
What Romanian want from their Revolut account
According to a survey conducted by Dynata for Revolut, in January 2023, the local IBAN is in first place among the characteristics that a primary bank account should have to meet the needs of Romanian customers (43%).
In second place is the payroll or salary account (12%), and in third place (7%), is the ability to make payments to state institutions or to accept payments from public authorities (pensions, allowances for children, etc.) and to pay bills and subscriptions by direct debit.
