In 2024, Romanians’ appetite for burgers surged by more than 60% compared to the previous year. One in three burger orders now includes chicken burgers, making them the most popular choice nationwide, according to delivery company Glovo data.

Following closely behind are cheeseburgers, traditional beef burgers, and the increasingly trendy smashed burgers – made by pressing the meat onto a hot grill or pan to create a crisp exterior. Among vegetarian options, the plant-based cheeseburger takes the lead, accounting for nearly 40% of all vegetarian burger orders.

Romanians ordered burgers at an impressive rate in the past year, approximately 25 burgers every minute, or more than 35,000 burgers daily. One enthusiastic customer in Bucharest placed over 750 burger orders in 2023 alone, while another set a record with a single burger order exceeding 1,500 RON.

After Bucharest, the highest number of orders came from Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Oradea, and Iași. Fridays are the most popular day for burger cravings, with more than 16% of weekly orders placed on that day. Most consumers opt for burgers at dinner time, with peak ordering hours around 7:00 p.m.

Glovo’s platform data also reveals a 16% year-over-year increase in burger consumption. Globally, the number of customers who ordered burgers in the past 12 months grew by 14%, and average spending per customer rose by 5%.
