A 74-year-old woman diagnosed with Flurona, a term used by specialists to describe the simultaneous infection with the flu virus and COVID-19, died, according to Dr. Florin Roşu, the manager of the Hospital for Infectious Diseases ”Sf Parascheva” in Iasi.
It is not the only Flurona case in Iasi, another one registered being of a 69-year-old man, also from in Iasi County.
”The diagnosis of Flurona was confirmed in the case of both patients. They were treated in the Intensive Care Unit from the moment they were admitted in the hospital”, said Dr. Florin Roşu.
”Following the treatment administered by the hospital’s multidisciplinary team, consisting of an ATI doctor and an infectious disease doctor, the man was discharged yesterday, and his progress will be monitored by the family doctor from now on”, added Mr. Roșu.
Flurona is an informal term for a case in which a person is simultaneously infected with both the flu and the COVID-19 virus. It refers to a double infection (or co-infection)—two simultaneous but separate infections. It is not a single disease or a new strain of COVID-19.
