Four people died and five were badly injured on A7 Highway construction site, after an explosion at a gas main pipe in Vrancea County. The cause of the incident was human error after the gas pipe was hit by a machine.
Two men aged 61 and 53, victims of the explosion, followed by a fire, who had burns on 65 and 40 percent of their bodies respectively, were taken by helicopter and transferred to medical facilities in Bucharest.
A red intervention plan was activated at 01:30 on Thursday and the fire was extinguished after about three hours. Six water and foam extinguishing vehicles, four SMURD ambulances, and five ambulances intervened at the scene.
The A7 Highway contractor is an association led by the Romanian company UMB. The company’s employees work in three shifts on this site.
