Kathleen Ann Kavalec, the new US ambassador in Romania, to officially begin her mandate

Kathleen Ann Kavalec, the new United States of America ambassador in Romania presents her credentials to President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday.

Mrs. Kavalec arrived in Romania last Thursday and in the same day she was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, for the presentation of the accreditation letters copies.

She is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister-Counselor, that served as the Head of Mission at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, on detail from the Department of State since 2019.

A native of California, Kavalec earned her A.B. in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She speaks Romanian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Russian.
