The number of children left in the care of relatives or in the special protection system because their parents have gone to work abroad has fallen over the past year, according to public data.

Thus, according to official data from the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption (ANPDCA), in March 2024, 61,007 children in more than 50,000 families had one or both parents who had left to work abroad.

That’s down from the same period last year, when there were 72,902 out of nearly 57,000 families. Children whose parents go abroad remain either in the care of relatives or end up in the national protection system, foster care, or foster care centers.
