Romanian airports approached 25 million passengers last year, 17 percent more than in 2022 and over the 2019, before the pandemic, number of passengers (23,234,580 people).
The number of passengers on domestic routes decreased by 8 percent compared to 2022, reaching 1,821,052 people. The number of passengers on external routes increased by 19.62 percent in 2023, compared to 2022 (22,737,257 passengers).
The most transited airports in Romania in 2023
Bucharest Otopeni “Henri Coandă” was the airport with the highest traffic in Romania in 2023. It recorded over 14,6 million passengers. The capital’s second airport, Baneasa, recorded only 68,130 passengers.
The second busiest airport in the country is Cluj “Avram Iancu” International Airport, with 3,24 million passengers, followed by Iasi International Airport with 2,33 million passengers.
“Traian Vuia” International Airport in Timisoara is the fourth in the country to exceed the one million passengers mark in 2023 (1,35 million), while Suceava Airport recorded over 800,000 passengers.
A similar number of passengers were registered by the International Airports of Craiova (597,990) and Sibiu (550,397), as well as Targu Mures (262,997) and Bacau (249,802). Oradea International Airport (152,543 passengers) and Constanta “Mihail Kogalniceanu” International Airport (113,544 passengers) exceeded 100,000 people transported last year.
The fewest passengers transited Tulcea Airport (only 300 people), Arad (14,365 people), Satu Mare (56,396 people), the new Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport (79,011 people) and Baia Mare (89,940 people).
