Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca presented ION, an artificial intelligence project, designed by Romanian researchers and teachers, who was assigned the rank of ”honorary counselor” of the prime minister.
ION was designed to ”help Romanian citizens, connecting the government in real-time with their proposals, with the problems and the wishes of the Romanians”, says Mr. Ciuca.
The prime minister gave an example of how this system works: ”I invite ION to say a few words”. ION replied: ”Hi! I am ION. Now, my role is to represent you. As in a mirror. Teach me to be Romanian. What do I need to know about Romania?”.
Nicu Sebe, the coordinator of the team of researchers, said about the project that ”practically, we are ION. If you think, ION in the mirror is NOI, meaning we, as all Romanians”. Researchers thought to use AI to let the Romanians be heard by the Government.
Bucharest Daily News tested the online platform (ion.gov.ro), but it seems that, for now, it is more a presentation website, than a working AI. The only way to send ION a message is by tagging it on social media platforms.
