Wizz Air will increase the frequency of its Brasov-Budapest service to daily flights starting March 31, marking another expansion for Romania’s newest airport as passenger numbers continue to rise.

Brasov International Airport said on Monday that the low-cost carrier will operate the route seven days a week, up from the current four weekly flights. The connection links central Transylvania with the Hungarian capital and serves a wider catchment area that includes the Székely Land.

The route was launched on July 2, 2024, and quickly became one of the airport’s most popular services. Flight frequency was already raised from three to four weekly departures in October 2025.

Network expansion continues

Beyond Budapest, the southern Transylvanian airport is continuing to expand its route portfolio. A new service to Rome will launch on January 28, with three weekly departures, while flights to Nuremberg will increase to six times per week starting June 1.

Local authorities say the network growth is backed by strong traffic momentum. Brasov County Council President Adrian Vestea said the airport recorded a 48% increase in passenger traffic in 2025 compared with the previous year, handling 337,353 passengers.
