Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the President of Ukraine, made his first visit to Romania since the Russian invasion on Tuesday and thanked Romanians for the provided support, including the military aid.
Zelenskiy was Klaus Iohannis’s guest at the Cotroceni Palace. He was going to give a speech in the Romanian Parliament, as he does in every country he visits, but it was canceled. Both Presidents held joint press statements.
The two agreed to sign a future strategic partnership between Romania and Ukraine and discussed infrastructure, the opening of new border crossing points, and national minorities in Ukraine.
A strategic direction is the Romania-Moldova-Ukraine cooperation, and soon, a grain export corridor will operate through Moldova. Zelenskiy is convinced that Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova will also become EU members, with the support of Romania.
”I will personally advocate for this decision at the European Council in December. It is a decision that will confirm the progress made by Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova despite extremely difficult conditions”, added President Iohannis.
Klaus Iohannis also said: „We want a bilateral relationship based on trust and common values, with a long-term vision, focused on concrete projects, for the benefit of our citizens and the entire region.”
