A man was sentenced to 10 months in prison for a slap on the bottom. Magistrates decided that this kind of sexual harassment type that occurs on the streets of Romania must be punished with imprisonment.
Everything happened on June 28, 2021, when several women, including the injured party, Nina Smart, a person with Romanian and American citizenship, were approached by an unknown person, who was later identified as Viorel Lupu, from Neamţ county.
He made a series of sexual comments and at one point the defendant hit Nina Smart across the bottom with a violent gesture and then entered a nearby betting agency, laughing.
All four women who witnessed the gesture were shocked and upset by the defendant’s gesture. One of the witnesses stated that she also felt fear, considering that they were alone on the street and something similar could happen to them.
Viorel Lupu was sent to court for two crimes: hitting or other violence and disturbing public peace and order. It is interesting that during the hearings during the criminal investigation, the man admitted his guilt.
The court sentenced him to 9 months in prison for hitting and other violence, respectively 3 months in prison for disturbing the peace and public order. The resulting final sentence is 10 months in prison.
