Steaua’s football team from 1984-1989 was included by the famous British publication FourFourTwo in the Top 50 of the best teams in history, where it sits in the 42nd position.
„Militarii” won the European Cup in 1986 (2-0 on penalties with FC Barcelona), the European Super Cup in 1987 (1-0 with Dynamo Kiev) and played another European Cup final in 1989 (0-4 with AC Milan).
„Steaua were like a Romanian Harlem Globetrotters, led by Victor Piturca and Miodrag Belodedici’s graceful artistry. Militarii did go 104 domestic games unbeaten from June 1986 until September 1989”, says FourFourTwo.
Steaua Bucharest team from 1984-1989 is better than big clubs such as Chelsea (2004-2006), Arsenal (2003-2004), Hamburg (1977-1983) or Marseille (1988-1993).
The best football team in the world is Ajax Amsterdam (generation 1965-1973), when it was led by the Romanian coach Ștefan Kovacs, also a former national champions winner with Steaua. Top 3 is completed by Brazil 1970 and AC Milan, the generation of the Rijkaard-Gullit-Van Basten triplet (1987-1991).
CSA Steaua Bucharest, which now is first in the Second League table, is still the biggest football club in Romania, with 20 championships, 19 Romanian Cups, 1 European Cup, and 1 European Super Cup won.
