The Bucharest Courthouse decided a 30-day pre-trial arrest for two female physicians from the St. Pantelimon Hospital charged with having caused the death of a patient admitted to intensive care by intentionally lowering the dose of norepinephrine.

Doctor M.M.A. is being investigated for the crimes of attempted aggravated murder (with premeditation and taking advantage of the victim’s obvious vulnerability), and aggravated murder (with premeditation). In contrast, doctor P.M. is being investigated for the crime of aggravated murder (with premeditation).

Prosecutors allege that in March and April 2024, the doctors reduced the dose of norepinephrine, which is used to maintain blood pressure, to a patient hospitalized in intensive care, thus he went into cardio-respiratory arrest.

Health Minister Alexandru Rafila said on Thursday that he does not take responsibility for the situation at St. Pantelimon Hospital, as it is a ”premeditated murder”, and that he has no reason to resign.
