A 21-year-old man shot in the back by the police during a traffic chase, on Saturday night, in Moldoviţa, Suceava County, died in the hospital, according to Agerpres.

Suceava Police Inspectorate, said that, on Saturday, around 10:40 P.M., a crew from the Vama rural police department, issued a regulatory signal of stopping an all-terrain vehicle registered abroad and with the steering wheel on the right side.

Since the driver did not respect the stop signal and continued his journey, increasing the speed, police went in pursuit of the vehicle with the acoustic and light signals on.

At one point, the all-terrain vehicle turned and entered a bumpy forest road and police summoned the driver, through the special vehicle’s amplifier, to stop, otherwise they would use their weapons.

The driver did not submit to the legal summons, thus, one of the police officers fired two shots in the air and then fired at the vehicle. Later, the pursuit was stopped, because the forest road was bumpy and could not be traveled by the police special vehicle.

A few minutes after this event, a 112 call from an anonymous person reported that a young man was injured, presenting a gunshot wound in the back.

Emergency crews that arrived at the scene determined that the person shot was a 21-year-old young man from Vatra Moldoviţei, who was in the vehicle previously pursued by the police. Also, two other young men, both 21 years old, were identified but refused to cooperate with the police.

All of them were under the influence of alcohol, they did not say who was behind the wheel or why they did not stop at the police signals.
