CFR bought 37 Alstom trains that will run on routes all over the country. The first inter-regional electric frame (RE-IR) will arrive at the Faurei Railway Testing Center in July 2023, in order to carry out dynamic tests.

The maximum running speed of this electric frames is 160 km/h. They are composed of six carriages (two end carriages with driving cabins and four intermediate carriages) and provide 351 seats.

New trains have air conditioning systems, wi-fi connection, spaces for bar/bistro and for travelers with disabilities, as well as an area for automatic ticket distribution and ticket checking machines.

Alstom trains will serve long-distance routes like Bucharest North – Constanta, Bucharest North – Timisoara, Bucharest North – Cluj, Bucharest North – Brasov, Bucharest North – Iasi, Bucharest North – Suceava, Bucharest North – Galati, Bucharest-North – Simeria.

In Romania, the only electrified and modernized railways are Bucharest-Constanta (Constanta-Mangalia is operated with diesel traction), Bucharest-Predeal, and sections from Sighisoara to Simeria and Arad-Curtici.
