Romania’s national football team will play in Group E at Euro 2024 this summer, along with Belgium, Slovakia, and the winner of the Play-off route B. Edi Iordănescu’s lads are very lucky as they managed to avoid much stronger opponents.
The strongest opponent in Group E, Belgium, easily won the preliminaries with six wins and two draws. With an estimated squad value of EUR 440 million, the Belgians have top footballers who play in all of Europe’s major leagues.
The best Belgian players are Jeremy Doku (Manchester City), Lois Openda (RB Leipzig), Romelu Lukaku (AS Roma), Leandro Trossard (Arsenal) and Johan Bakayoko (PSV). The Belgian national team is coached by Italian Domenico Tedesco.
Slovakia is at its third appearance at a European Championship final tournament, after 2016 and 2020. They also played at the World Cup 2010. Also led by an Italian coach, Francesco Calzona, Slovakia finished the qualifiers in second place in a group won by Portugal.
With a squad value of almost EUR 170 million (compared to EUR 72 million for Romania), the most valuable Slovak players are Milan Skriniar (EUR 50 million / PSG), Stanislav Lobotka (EUR 40 million / Napoli) and David Hancko (30 million euros / Feyenoord).
The last team in Group E will be known after the play-off between Bosnia vs Ukraine / Israel vs Iceland. Only one of these four teams qualifies, and Romania will play the first game at EURO 2024 against it on June 17, 2023, in Munchen.
