According to the two exit polls presented after the polls closed, Marcel Ciolacu, PSD candidate in the presidential elections, obtained 25% of the votes, Elena Lasconi, USR candidate, 18%, and Călin Georgescu, an independent candidate, 16%.
These three are followed by George Simion (AUR) – 15%, Nicolae Ciucă (PNL) – 14%, Mircea Geoană (independent) – 5%, Kelemen Hunor (UDMR) – 4%, Cristian Diaconescu (independent) – 2%, in the CURS exit poll.
It was a clear signal that democracy in Romania is strong. I am glad that the vote took place without major incidents, especially as I am also Prime Minister of Romania at the moment, said Marcel Ciolacu after the polls closed.
Elena Lasconi said that Romanians have shown they do not want this PSD-PNL government. Basically, today’s vote is a motion of censure by Romanians that they do not want a PSD government. From the exit polls that we have seen so far, practically 75% of Romanians voted otherwise, not for the PSD.
The exit-polls data are valid for 19:00 PM and only for polling stations across Romania. By 9 PM, 52.40% of the registered voters had cast their vote for the election of the President of Romania, 50.47% women and 49.53% men,
